Health system barriers to prompt treatment of children with malaria, pneumonia and diarrhoea - Kallader (inSCALE, 2016)

Brief shows how health system barriers prompt and appropriate treatment of children with malaria, pneumonia and diarrhoea in areas where community health workers deliver integrated community case management. Some findings include establishing patterns of care-seeking behavior prior to a fatal childhood illness episode in areas served by CHWs delivering iCCM. Also, for all children whose deaths were recorded in Inhambane province in 2015, social and verbal autopsies were conducted to establish the cause of death and care seeking patterns preceding the death.

Kemri Study Pneumonia Homa Bay Results (KenyaMoH, 2016)

This is a presentation done by Kenya's Ministry of Health, the Kenya Medical Research Institute, and UNICEF. Its main objective is to determine whether trained, supervised, and well-supplied community health workers in hard-to-reach areas such as Homabay County can correctly perform iCCM and increase the proportion of children under five years receiving antibiotics for pneumonia, artementher-lumefantrine for malaria, and zinc and oral rehydration therapy for diarrhoea by 20% compared to the current standard of care.
