Community Health Planning and Costing Tool (Version 2.0) Trainings

July 25, 2023 - August 25, 2023
Online

The purpose of the first session on the Community Health Planning and Costing Tool, a UNICEF tool developed by Management Sciences for Health, was to build the capacity of planners and managers to calculate the cost of community child health services within the context of community health care programs and to develop investment cases that can be used for advocacy and planning. This initial session took place during the CHTF virtual conference in June 2023.

Participants were provided with an overview of the process of costing using the Community Health Planning and Costing Tool. They learned about type of data required, how data are entered into the tool, what kinds of reports are produced, and how what-if-analysis can be carried out. They also learned how to use the results to develop an investment case. The session involved the presentation of an overview of the process of carrying out the costing and preparing an investment case as well as a walk-through of key elements of the tool.

Presenters of the CHPCT at the virtual conference included:

  • Professor David Collins, Independent Consultant, Boston University School of Public Health
  • Colin Gilmartin, Principal Technical Advisor, Health Economics and Financing, Management Sciences for Health

David Collins continued the knowledge sharing which started at the virtual conference during July and August of 2023 with two follow up trainings on the tool.
